If you live in McConnells or Rock Hill, then you have picked the perfect site to find a veterinarian. Palmetto Veterinary Medicine & Surgery is committed to providing the highest quality animal care in a warm and friendly environment. We treat every animal as if it were our own!

Palmetto Veterinary Medicine and Surgery has two locations -- the first is in the small and beautiful town of McConnells and the second is in the growing city of Rock Hill. Dr. James Love established this practice in the Fall of 2003 on land that he and his family have lived on for generations. In 2007, Palmetto Vet underwent some major construction, adding a large animal facility as well as a small animal boarding/grooming facility. The practice "team" has grown to include 3 doctors and a dozen full and part time staff members.

We offer a wide range of services for both our large and small animal patients.

Our small animal hospital has diagnostic, treatment and surgery areas utilizing the latest in technological advances for the best care of our patients. We are equipped with a complete pharmacy, in-house laboratory and advanced diagnostic equipment including an ultrasound and portable radiology unit. We have a new state of the art digital xray processor with the option for you to take home your own copy of your pet's radiographs. Our services include routine preventative care, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, dentistry, critical care, pain management, even in home euthanasia. We also offer non-medical services such as boarding and professional grooming. Our boarding facility has indoor/outdoor combination runs, as well as indoor only runs and a separate room for our feline visitors. We also have several outdoor play areas to allow our canine guests some fresh air and play time.

We provide both haul-in and ambulatory services for horses, camelids (alpacas and llamas), cattle, small ruminants and other livestock. Because our large animal hospital is much better equipped than our truck, we recommend bringing your animals to us if possible. We have a well equipped large animal facility with stocks and treatment stalls. Our large animal services include routine preventative care, lameness and pre-purchase exams, minor surgery, critical care, dentistry, radiology, ultrasound, acupuncture and regenerative stem cell therapy. Our overnight patients are monitored throughout the night by our highly experienced technician that lives on the premises.

We have a number of resources for you to learn about how to take better care of your pets. Browse around and look at our articles and pet videos. The best veterinary care for animals is ongoing nutrition and problem prevention. If you want to ask a question call (803) 628-1665 or email us and we'll promptly get back to you. Our McConnells and Rock Hill veterinarian offices are very easy to get to, and you can find directions on our Locations page. You can also subscribe to our newsletter which is created especially for York County pet owners. In between your veterinary visits, your pet will benefit from you reading these free informative articles.

At Palmetto Veterinary Medicine & Surgery, we treat your pets like the valued family members they are.

Learn Who We Are

  • Dr.
    Leslie Burch
    Veterinarian

Dr. Burch is a native of South Carolina and attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities with specialization in visual arts. Dr. Burch graduated from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2019. Prior to pursuing veterinary medicine, Dr. Burch received her Master’s of Science in Biology at Winthrop University, traveling to the jungles of Peru for several months to complete her thesis research on Amazon River dolphin vocalization and behavior. She has a special interest in diagnostic imaging and medical technology. Dr. Burch enjoys her free time reading, traveling, baking, playing video games and goofing off with her two dogs, Lionel and Theo and two kitties Bubastis and Lucille. Her favorite breed of dog is anything with a block head.

  • Dr.
    Sean Stewart
    Veterinarian

Dr Stewart joined the team in 4/2019. He graduated from Clemson University with his B.S. Degree and Georgia University with his DVM Degree.

  • Dr.
    Jonathan Blanton

Dr. Jonathan Blanton joined our team as a part-time associate in May 2019.  A native of Rock Hill, he graduated from Northwestern High School in 1998 before attending Clemson University.  He graduated from Clemson in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and then moved to the island of St. Kitt’s in the West Indies (Caribbean) to attend Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine.  After 2 ½ years on the island he returned to the mainland to finish his clinical year at Louisiana State University and graduated a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. Over the past nearly 11 years he has been practicing in Greenville, SC as a full-time associate, before moving back to Rock Hill in 2019.  Dr. Blanton has always enjoyed animals, having had many dogs, cats, birds, a rabbit, ferret, and various other pets throughout his life. He has a particular fondness for birds, receiving his first official pet (Sonny), a Latino cockatiel for his 8th birthday, whom he lost about 4 years ago at the age of 26.  He currently lives with his family here in Rock Hill, and works with multiple practices part-time.

  • Dr.
    Brenton Gwinn
    Veterinarian

Brenton is another local, having grown up in Lake Wylie.  Just like Dr. Love, Brenton also attended Clemson University and received his B.S. in Animal Science before getting his D.V.M. from theUniversity of Georgia.  Don't let the black and red ties fool you, Brenton swears that he bleeds orange and purple!  His hobbies include traveling, the beach, riding horses, skiing, riding motorcycles, and exercising.  Dr. Gwinn recently got a blue heeler/border collie puppy named Deuce.  So if you see him while visiting the office, be sure to say hello (belly rubs appreciated).

He can be reached at brenton@palmettovet.com

  • Dr.
    James Love
    Veterinarian

Dr James Love has strong ties to the community and town of McConnells. His family has been living in York County since revolutionary times. His only time away from the area was to attend Clemson University for his B.S. degree and to attend Tuskeegee University for his D.V.M. degree. Whenever he has the chance to discuss Clemson sports, he will gladly take the time to try to convert you if you are not already a fan! He is known for his 'laid back' attitude and always has a joke on the tip of his tongue. He, and most of his immediate family, live within a few miles from the clinic and are frequently 'stopping by' to chat with clients and friends. If you are not already a friend of his, you will soon become one.

He can be reached at james@palmettovet.com

    Emily E. (Google Reviews)

Wow what a great group! Just moved to area and had an emergency situation with my dog that Dr. Love took great care of. Staff was just as amazing and all had great "bed side manners" - I appreciated their very honest approach. Very thankful for my happy health dog and for Palmetto Vet Practice-
